Chanel Venice Collection Eye Gloss Turns Up the Intensity - Makeup and Beauty Blog

chanel venice collection fall 2009 eye gloss

The Chanel Venice collection for autumn 2009 keeps dishing out surprises.

First, the two summery Glossimers threw me for a loop, and now it's the Eye Gloss ($65).

My start impression? Wearability — in that I wasn't sure how wearable this quad would exist, but after some quality playtime with information technology yesterday, I've fabricated up my mind. The colors brand fantastic eyeshadow bases, but they do come up with a few serious caveats.

Varying pigmentation

Chanel packed the Eye Gloss quad with four creamy shadows in shades of shimmery gold, beige, burgundy and black. Both the beige and gilt shades apply with a medium pigmentation, while the burgundy and black shades utilize with rich, deep colour.

Texture and terminate

The tester I'd first touched at a counter the other day must take been sitting out for a while. At that time I'd idea the colors felt thin and dry to the touch. Not so, though, because the shadows in the quad I purchased feel thick and moist, kinda like a lip gloss.

The moistness allows for a lot of move on my skin, and unlike MAC Pigment Pots or Benefit Creaseless Foam Shadows, which kickoff off creamy simply dry within a few minutes, the Eye Gloss shades remain wet much longer on the skin, and that allows for a lot of time to blend, layer and manipulate the gloss effectually my lids. Squeamish.

As for the finish — it'southward indeed sleeky. All four shades apply with a shiny end reminiscent of a layer of lip gloss on the eyes.

CAVEAT: Wearing the shades by themselves isn't uber-applied

Unfortch, there's a downside to all of this freedom. The shadows almost never fully dry, and so they're apt to movement throughout the day, migrating across the skin and settling into creases and fine lines. Afterwards a while on me it starts to look *very* messy.

If what you're looking for is an edgy, high-way eyeshadow expect, one that's purposefully grungy, you might like the migration factor, but I'm guessing that many women might consider the mess a big pain in the arse.

Intensifies colors, adds shine to pulverisation shadows

While the Eye Gloss colors can be challenging to wear on their own, they exercise have ane huge advantage over other cream shadows: they really intensify the colour and shimmer of powdered shadows — even better than my beloved MAC Paint Pots, MAC Cream Colour Bases and the Benefit Creaseless Creams practice. I notice an immediate, dramatic difference in colour intensity, shimmer and shine.

When layered beneath powder eyeshadows, most cream shadows bump upwardly the intensity of a pulverization shadow past mayhap 50%. The Eye Glosses, however, increase the richness of colors past 2-iii times (100-150%!).

I'1000 not sure why… Information technology could accept something to exercise with how moist the Eye Glosses are. Whatever the reason, I think they evangelize unparalleled intensity when worn with powder eyeshadows.

Lasts longer than expected

In terms of wear time, the Middle Gloss-pulverization shadow combo settles into my fine lines afterward about three hours of use. Not great, but then again, it's not as bad as information technology could accept been.

Awarding

I experimented with dissimilar tools to apply the Eye Glosses just received the all-time results when I applied them with a sponge applicator, blending out the edges with a wedge-shaped makeup sponge.

Final thoughts…

At $65, this quad is a pure splurge. It's hella expensive, but information technology delivers some unusual effects.

A few things to consider if you're thinking nearly taking the plunge:

  • If you want a unique and edgy loftier-fashion wait, you'll probably get a petty more out of this quad considering yous'll be able to wear the colors both by themselves or layered below powder shadows.
  • If you're looking for something strictly to article of clothing every bit a base beneath pulverization shadows, Heart Gloss might as well be worth the splurge.
  • If you're considering purchasing this and have oily skin, consider adding a primer upwardly into the mix to decrease the movement of the Eye Glosses on your lids. Layering a primer like Urban Decay Potion Primer or Laura Mercier Oil-Free primer beneath Eye Gloss could improve its staying power.

Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

I really like this quad for layering but not and then much on its ain. It might not be anybody's cup of tea, but if you lot're looking for something new and different, Chanel Eye Gloss might be worth your time.

No more than True Blood before bed!

vampire bill in the mutha effin house

I just started watching the Truthful Blood series on DVD (don't have HBO), and I'm already hooked. Information technology'due south everything I'd wanted the Twilight movie to be — a little edgy and quirky with just a pinch of danger… I finally encounter exactly what all the hype is almost! 🙂

El Hub commented on how much cooler he idea Vampire Beak (VB!) is in comparison to Edward from Twilight. I gotta say… I agree. VB may be a piddling older, but he's got an intensity that Edward lacks on screen. Anyone else agree?

Team VB, ya'll! 🙂
